Eliza Oakes @ St Pancras Old Church

In bustling North London, I was invited to see Eliza Oakes play her sold out show in the beautiful venue of St Pancras Old Church. The vaulted ceilings and large space resulted with amazing acoustics and rich sounds that echoed off of the stone walls.

Oakes began her set with “Let It Be Known” - her first ever single released two years ago. Her powerful vocals filled the packed space and everyone was in awe of her talent. Her next song “Weight of The World” grew to a crescendo with an electric guitar and vocal solo before she slowed the pace of the show down with “Rare”, exposing her soft voice and tone.

After announcing her EP will be coming out soon, Oakes treated us to a track from it called “Greenlight” which included an element of jazz inspired piano. She jumped straight into a cover of Minnie Riperton’s “Les Fleurs” and the crowd were swaying to the beat, joining in to harmonise with her at the end.

After releasing her latest single “Heaven in Your Eyes” only last week, Oakes explained the meaning behind the song; “it’s for anyone who is trying to realise their truth and their purpose”. The uplifting song earned cheers from the audience and, after spilling that there might be an album on the way, Oakes finished with her track “An Intuition” which resulted in a standing ovation at the end of the show.

Personally, I can’t wait to hear more from Eliza Oakes, she’s definitely one to keep your eye on in the future! You can listen to her latest release here.
