Hippo Campus at The Garage

Kilimanjaro Live brought St. Paul, Minnesota’s Hippo Campus to The Garage in London on May 9th, 2022. This sold out show marked their long awaited, post-pandemic return to the city.

Highlights of their live set include experimental voice manipulation from jovial, two-mic frontman Jake Luppen juxtaposed with Nathan Stocker’s detached stage presence. Stocker, lead guitarist with eyes hidden by a knitted, floral bucket hat, pleasantly surprised me with his effortless vocals in tracks like “Deepfake”. The crowd’s energy equally matched the band’s excitement and gratitude to be back in the UK.

I’ve been following this band for about 7 years now, and they’ll always remind me of suburban summertime; needless to say, my Midwestern heart is very content. Their tour briefly continues into Europe and then back into the States this fall - I strongly encourage you to check them out.
