The Ultimate Guide to Gluten-Free Vegan Pizza in London

*I am gluten intolerant. These locations can accommodate coeliacs as well, but options may vary. Please check with your server before ordering.

While London offers an exotic culinary scene, sometimes I want nothing more than a good ol’ pizza. Given that I do not eat the two of the key ingredients in a regular pizza (wheat and cheese), I have gone on a quest, undertaken the research of egg-free crusts, and narrowed down the best vegan and gluten-free pizza options in the city.

Best Value: Pizza Union

With just six locations in London, I’m lucky enough that my last two flats have been within walking distance of a Pizza Union, as it’s the perfect place to grab a quick meal (or take out).

My go-to is the Giardano pizza (vegan mozzarella, mixed peppers, mushroom, basil) with pineapple and the gluten-free crust. Their menu is affordable without sacrificing quality - pizzas start at just £5.95 and gluten-free crust is an additional £2.50. Their staff members are very friendly and knowledgeable, pizzas are ready in minutes, and they have fun margaritas as well!

Most Accessible: Franco Manca

With 39 locations in the greater London area (and 70 in the UK), Franco Manca is by far the most accessible place to get a satisfying vegan and gluten-free pizza. Franco Manca appeals to vegans as well as those who prefer meat-based toppings, so it’s a great place to dine with non-vegan family and friends.

While all their pizzas can be made with a gluten-free crust, vegan options are limited on the fixed menu. They offer a single vegan Margherita that can be customized with toppings. However, their rotating vegan special, displayed on chalkboards, are impressive.

During my last visit, I enjoyed a delicious beetroot and potato-based pizza with spinach, cannellini beans, shallots, and Violife vegan cheese. The special included plant-based mince, which wasn’t gluten-free, so I substituted it with caramelized onions. The gluten-free crust is thinner but just as tasty; I topped my pizza with chili oil and happily finished it in one sitting.

Best Experience: Purezza

Purezza, the UK’s first all-vegan pizzeria, offers a luxurious dining experience at accessible prices. Located in Camden, it’s a haven for vegans, where the only limitation is gluten.

The cozy atmosphere and carb-rich menu are perfect for a comforting meal. Highlights include the Caesar Salad, BBQ Bourbon Pizza, Black Truffle Pizza, and the Brownie. Their gluten-free crust is so doughy and delicious that you might forget it's gluten-free! Additionally, their wine list is both sustainably sourced and affordable (125ml glasses range from £5-6).

Purezza is an ideal date spot but fills up quickly for dinner, so be sure to make a reservation.

Bonus: La Fauxmagerie at Purezza

London’s vegan cheesemonger, La Fauxmagerie, has recently partnered with Purezza, merging their shop into Purezza’s Camden location. The downstairs area has been transformed into The Cheese Cellar, offering fondue, wine & cheese nights, and more.
