As a 17-year-old, this album disrupted my worldview, to a level of seismic proportions. Through this album, my favorite band was written in stone.
Every single song on MVOTC is perfect and I’m so excited that I will get to relisten and enjoy it for the rest of my life. “Step” is probably my favorite song of all time; it’s the perfect soundtrack for any emotion (trust me, I’ve tested them all). Each song is so distinct, yet they all come together to create this beautiful quilt that talks about time, getting older, and coming to terms with the world around us. “Hannah Hunt” is possibly one of the most beautiful songs ever written, and it’s a gut-punch every single time.
The production is so tight and symphonic. All of the orchestrations are perfect and a masterclass on how to make an album feel grand and out of this world. MVOTC also includes some of my favorite B-sides like “Finger Back” and “Everlasting Arms”.
This band has provided me with countless friends, some of the best concert experiences, and made me fall in love with music. I wouldn’t know who I was without this album.
