An Undying Love for The Sense8 Soundtrack
I’m probably late to join the Sense8 fandom - it was recently recommended to me by a friend, and I’ve been obsessed since beginning. The character development throughout the series is so well thought-out, and each relationship feels genuine. The storyline continues to dig into deep topics while entertaining the viewer and the soundtrack is just too amazing not to talk about.
The show itself is a Netflix original and was cancelled after only two seasons blamed mostly on an imbalance between low viewership and high costs of production. Nevertheless, the two seasons that are available to stream focus on a group of individuals from all around the world that form an unusual connection with one another. The show does an incredible job of representing different ethnicities as well as the LGBTQ community through the developed personas of the characters.
While the entirety of the show sheds light on important communities and issues, it’s made even MORE amazing by the carefully picked songs that play throughout each episode. My personal favorite is What’s Up? By 4 Non Blondes but it also contains classics like Baba O’Riley by The Who and World Spins Madly On by The Weepies. There are many songs throughout the series by Avicii, the DJ and producer who just recently died by suicide at much too early of an age after struggling with alcohol and drug addiction; two issues that are present in the lives of the characters in Sense8 as well. Some other great bops throughout the episodes include Kettering by The Antlers, Holocene by Bon Iver, and Small Things by Ben Howard.
Each episode of Sense8 continued to impress me with not only the storyline but with each and every meticulously picked song. The decision to cancel the series came as a surprise to many but thankfully, the creators were allowed to premier one final episode to tie up any loose ends that were created in what was thought to be the last episode. As an important show all around, the two sensational seasons of Sense8 should not be passed up the next time you’re debating what show to binge-watch.
