With a moon projected behind her and the stage set up with chairs, Maya graced the stage with screams and cheers from the sold-out venue. Beginning with her song “Bloomed Into Blue” Maya kept the audience entranced, her soft vocals filling the room. Fans eagerly sang every word back to her as she performed “Crazy Kid”.

During “Luna Moth”, Maya’s guitarist gave an intricate solo and the packed crowd cheered loudly. Whilst performing a bluesy cover of “Into My Arms” by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Maya sat down on the chair onstage, letting her band jam and getting more comfortable in the space.

And as she pressed a gentle kiss to her keyboard player’s cheek, a bold fan in the crowd yelled “me next!”.

Teasing unreleased music, Maya explained a track she wrote about how she didn’t go to college but when her little brother went, she started hanging out with college kids for the first time in her life. She said she’d heard it’s where you supposedly make friends for the rest of your life and so she wrote a song with lyrics like “now I know it’s me who’s missing out”. The song was upbeat though the lyrics felt melancholy. The crowd went wild for the electric guitar in the bridge.

And there you have it, Maya Hawke’s intimate show in London. We certainly enjoyed it and can’t wait to see her again. She’ll be touring the midwest this May - get your tickets here.
