Olivia Dean @ Eventim Apollo
British superstar Olivia Dean took to the stage in London’s iconic Hammersmith Apollo to sell out three nights of her Messy Tour and yes, I was blown away.
Beginning behind a backlit screen with Dean’s silhouette projected as she started her set with “UFO”. The crowd screamed and cheered as the screen dropped, revealing Dean in a Cinderella-style pink satin set. The stage setup was creative and fun with mirrors reflecting her band.
During her second song “Ok Love You Bye”, she emitted energy and smiles as she pranced around the stage.
With a full brass band, keys, guitars, drums, and backup singers, the audience experienced a depth of sonics as she sang her hits like “Danger”, “Echo” and “The Hardest Part”.
Slowing down her set, she explained the backstory to her song “Be My Own Boyfriend”, going on to say it was her favourite song she’s ever written and the message is about the concept of the other half - something she told the crowd she doesn't believe in.
Teasing a new track, Dean gave us “Touching Toes” a soft, sweet song that everyone in the audience was entranced by. I can’t wait until it’s released.
During her song “I Could Be A Florist” a fan (who was a florist!) gave her a bouquet of tulips which was much appreciated by Dean.
As the energy turned back up to 100, Dean ripped off her ruffle skirt to reveal a pink mini skirt as she dived into an exhilarating cover of “Millionaire” by Kelis.
Ending her amazing set with “Dive”, I’m excited to see what's next for this talented star.
You can catch Dean on her headline tour Messy in Europe and the US as well as festival appearances this year. Olivia Dean headlines this year’s Love Supreme Festival (her first festival headline performance) on Saturday, July 6th. www.lovesupremefestival.com.
